It’s 38 minutes until kickoff for the biggest game of the year in college football, the Red River Rivalry. Most of us began celebrating this glorious game day weekend last night and are now regretting that last glass of wine, but the adrenaline kicks in so I scrape myself together with thoughts of OU dominating Texas. First item up – BLOODY MARY.
As a T1D, a moment doesn’t go by where I don’t think about what I’m putting into my body and how it’s going to effect me. Bloody Marys are pretty standard, vodka and bloody mary mix, salted rim and something pickled. Well, I’ve put a healthy spin on this delicious beverage.
Ingredients:
- Vodka of Choice
- Zing Zang or a homemade mix should you want to be fancy
- Soda Water
- Lime
- All Things Pickled
The average bloody mary is equal parts mix and vodka which is a TON of sodium especially if you get a salted rim and pickled veggies. I want to eliminate the sodium while still enjoying the flavor. My high maintenance cocktail consists of a single pour of vodka over ice in a pint glass, add soda water 3/4 to the top and add a splash of bloody mary mix. Garnish consists of a lime and all things pickled and you can also spice it up with horseradish or hot sauce. The options are endless, but the soda water will keep you somewhat hydrated and cut back your sodium intake should you have another.
BOOMER SOONER!!!
